Barbecue Accessories

The barbecue tools you need for great grilling

Want more enjoyment and even better meals while cooking on the barbecue? The right barbecue accessories can make a big difference in your outdoor cooking experience. Having the right accessories within reach can make the job much easier. Here are some cool barbecue tools that can add both zest and ease to your next barbecued masterpiece:

  • Rotisserie. This allows you to barbecue larger cuts of meat, like whole chickens, roasts or a leg of lamb. You simply place the meat on a large metal skewer. The rotisserie then turns the skewer slowly over low heat, resulting in delicious and evenly cooked meat.
  • Meat thermometer. Using a meat thermometer takes all the guesswork out of grilling meat. Instead of guessing or cutting into the meat to tell if it’s ready (and losing the tasty juices in the process), just use a meat thermometer instead. You’ll end up with perfectly cooked food every time.
  • Grill brushes. Many barbecue enthusiasts have a favorite secret sauce that they use to take their barbecued meats to the next level. Grill brushes allow you to apply sauce directly and evenly to the meat rather than slopping it over your grill. Applying the sauce with a grill brush helps to keep it on the meat instead of letting it drip onto the burners.
  • Skewers. These are wooden or metal spears that are used to cook meat and vegetables. Using a skewer allows you to cook smaller portions of meat without the risk of having them falling through the grate.
  • Wood chips. If you cook with propane or natural gas and you crave that smoky flavor, then wood chips are a must. You can choose different types of wood, like hickory or mesquite, to add some extra aroma and flavor to your food.
  • Grill cleaner. This is one accessory that nobody can do without. For stainless steel grates, some like to use oven cleaner, while others recommend using the self-cleaning mode on your oven as another way to clean the barbecue grate. Many cooks close the lid and leave the heat on for a few minutes to allow the leftover grease and bits of meat to carbonize. Then, you can simply take a wire brush and scrape away the remnants. For light to moderate use, you can also leave the extensive cleaning for the beginning or end of the barbecue season.

Other indispensable items that will extend the life of your investment include BBQ covers, manual starters, roasting pans and regulator kits.
